What if my baby doesn’t sleep?
“What if my baby won’t settle for their photos?… What if all they want to do is nurse? What if we cant get enough photos!”
These are common concerns for newborn photos! Leave your stresses at the door when you arrive at my Maple Ridge Portrait studio. As a mother of three and certified birth and postpartum doula, I have years of experience soothing little ones, and have a few tricks up my sleeves to help them stay comfortable for posing and photographing. If worse comes to worse, your little one doesn’t need to be asleep to capture adorable images of them! I will add some of my favourite captures of happy and awake babies.
The above image shows that unwrapped, awake babies, can still be posed for their newborn photos. It is also much easier to settle a baby who is wrapped. If your baby is not tolerating their table poses while awake, we will wrap to settle them and then photograph them in their prop sets! 99% of the time, wrapping an unsettled baby will put them right to sleep. But if they’re not asleep, we can still capture those adorable eyes and expressions.
Most sessions have at least one or two awake images, and more often than not, they are my favourites! Seeing your little ones expressions is always a welcome addition to your online galleries. It’s kind of a myth among parents that babies must be asleep for their photos. I find a lot of clients feel really worried about making sure their little ones are completely in dream land before handing them over to me. But truly, as long as baby is comfortable we will be able to capture these awake shots, and more often than not, they do eventually fall asleep during their posing. As a baby led photographer, I always want to make sure that we are leaving your baby in charge. If they’re not tolerating a pose, we will move on from it. Each child is unique and not every session will yield the same results or the same poses.
